Only Seven Countries Met WHO Air Quality Standard in 2023

Out of the 134 countries and regions surveyed by IQAir, a Swiss air quality technology company, only seven meet the international air quality standard for PM2.5 particles. The microscopic particulate matter poses serious health risks when inhaled and can even be fatal.

The international guideline set by the World Health Organization (WHO) for PM2.5 concentration (μg/m³), according to the report, should be between 0 to five annually.

Finland ranked 125th among 134 countries and regions surveyed with PM2.5 particle concentration of 4.9 μg/m³ in 2023.

Estonia ranked 126th with PM2.5 particle concentration of 4.7 μg/m³.

Australia ranked 128th with PM2.5 particle concentration of 4.5 μg/m³.

New Zealand ranked 129th with PM2.5 particle concentration of 4.3 μg/m³.

Grenada ranked 131st with PM2.5 particle concentration of 4.1 μg/m³.

Iceland ranked 132nd with PM2.5 particle concentration of 4.0 μg/m³.

Mauritius ranked 133th with PM2.5 particle concentration of 3.5 μg/m³.
